Yes. Children aged 10 through 14 years, referred to as Unaccompanied Minors, can travel alone on direct domestic flights (including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Their itinerary must include only direct or through flights with no change of aircraft required. Unaccompanied minors are not permitted to travel internationally. We make sure our young Guests are taken care of onboard and offered a snack and drink. View our current Unaccompanied Minor charge here.

Spirit reserves the right to request documented proof of age to ensure Unaccompanied Minors are at least 10 years of age. Please be prepared to provide documentation i.e., birth certificate, passport, or government-issued ID, upon request.

IMPORTANT: Unaccompanied Minors are not allowed to travel on international flights.

MINORS TRAVELING DOMESTICALLY:

  • Children under 10 years old may not travel alone. They must travel with another guest at least 15 years of age who accepts responsibility for them.
  • Children 10-14 years old must travel as an Unaccompanied Minor when not traveling with an adult at least 15 years old. Unaccompanied Minors are accepted only on domestic direct flights which do not require a change of aircraft or flight number.
  • Guests 15 years old and older are not required to have Unaccompanied Minor service, but they may be asked to present a picture ID or birth certificate to verify their age. The Unaccompanied Minor service charge will be collected for Guests 15 and older if the service is requested.

Guidelines:
The following are guidelines that must be followed when a child is flying as an Unaccompanied Minor:

Contact Information:

  • Spirit requires the name, address, phone number, and government-issued photo ID for both of the following:
  • The responsible drop-off adult.
  • The responsible pick-up adult.

Making a Reservation for an Unaccompanied Minor:

  • Indicate that the booking is for an Unaccompanied Minor when making the reservation.

Check-In for an Unaccompanied Minor:

  • Arrive at the ticket counter with a Spirit Guest Service Agent at least 60 minutes before departure.
  • The responsible drop-off adult must complete an Unaccompanied Minor Form at the airport, providing photo identification.
  • This form will be placed in a lanyard that the Unaccompanied Minor must wear throughout the flight for identification by Spirit representatives.
  • Be prepared to provide contact information as indicated above, as well as the contact information for the responsible adult meeting the minor upon arrival.
  • Come prepared with your government-issued photo ID.

At the Airport:
  • Request a gate pass at the ticket counter, escort the child to the gate, and stay in the gate area until at least 15 minutes after the flight takes off.
  • Gate passes are issued only to non-traveling individuals with a government-issued photo ID.

Boarding:
  • Upon arrival at the gate, introduce your child as an Unaccompanied Minor to the Spirit Gate Agent and confirm you are at the correct departure gate.
  • During pre-boarding, the Spirit Gate Agent will introduce your child to the Flight Attendant as an Unaccompanied Minor.
  • If your child arrives too late for pre-boarding, they may be boarded last to ensure the introduction to the Flight Attendant.
  • In either case, be prepared not to leave the gate area until 15 minutes after the flight departs.

During the flight, prepare your child to:

  • Tell a Flight Attendant if he or she feels uncomfortable.
  • Follow the safety instructions (e.g., wear a seat belt).
  • Do not remove the lanyard.
  • Wait for a uniformed Spirit representative to escort them off the aircraft once it arrives at the gate.

Pick-Up at Destination:
  • The designated responsible pick-up adult must arrive early at the destination airport to get a Gate Pass from the ticket counter and be at the gate for the aircraft's arrival.
  • Come prepared with a government-issued photo ID.
  • The Flight Attendant or Spirit Gate Agent will escort the child off the aircraft and release them to the designated responsible pick-up adult.
