Free Bags For Active Duty U.S. Military
For active-duty military traveling on Spirit, we will provide two free checked bags and a free carry-on, in addition to the already free personal item. As much as we would like to extend this policy to your family and loved ones, it only applies to active military members. The bags must be added online in advance during booking, online check-in, or under the My Trips" tab for U.S. military members. It's important to note that bags cannot be added at the airport ticket counter. Active-duty U.S. military can validate their active-duty affiliation online during their Spirit.com booking using ID.ME, a third-party verification service. Simply click on the "verify" button at checkout via Spirit.com to validate your active-duty status and claim your free checked and carry-on bags.
Wounded Warrior & Families
Each year Spirit Airlines provides hundreds of free flights to wounded warriors and their families, for service members who have been wounded in battle. Recognizing the immediate need for families to be with their loved ones at such a difficult time, Spirit, in partnership with Luke’s Wings provides families with flights during the service member’s hospitalization and rehabilitation. This service is of great benefit to the families of our men and women at arms while also helping to encourage and motivate the service member’s recovery.
Honor Flights
Spirit is proud to partner with Honor Flight of South Florida. Last Spring, Spirit flew more than 80 World War II Veterans (half of the plane) to Washington DC, to honor their service to our country. We take them to our nations’ capital for a day of surprises and events in which they are celebrated. The events includes meeting congressmen, Veterans Affairs officials, and special trips to Arlington National Cemetery, the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the recently constructed World War II memorial. For many of the veterans this is the first time they’ve been able to visit the memorials that were built in their honor. This is a tremendously emotional trip for these veterans and Spirit is proud to be able to provide these flight for our greatest generation.
Does Spirit offer discounts for bereavement, U.S. military, children, students, or senior citizens?
No, our fares are already very low, and we are unable to offer additional discounts. However, in appreciation for their service to our country, we do provide two free checked bags, and one free carry-on to active-duty U.S. military, who validate their active-duty affiliation online during their Spirit.com booking.
