Understanding the special thanks the U.S. military service members deserve, Spirit is proud to provide the following services along with our low fares.

Free Bags For Active Duty U.S. Military Service Members

For active-duty U.S. military service members and their accompanying spouse and/or children traveling on Spirit, we will provide two free checked bags and a free carry-on, in addition to the already free personal item. For the military service member, bags must be added online in advance during booking, online check-in, or under the “My Trips" tab on our homepage after booking your flight. We use ID.ME, a third-party verification service, to validate that you are an active-duty U.S. military service member. Please click here for a detailed process on how to add military bags online.

NOTE: Accompanying spouses and children must add their bags with the assistance of a Guest Service Agent at the ticket counter at the airport. The spouse and children must be traveling with the active-duty U.S. military service member to receive free bags. Please bring your military ID for verification and arrive at least two hours before the departure of your domestic flight or three hours for your international flight.

What is the policy for priority boarding for active-duty military service members and their families?

Complimentary priority boarding is available for active-duty military service members, and their spouses and children when traveling with the military service member. Your party must be available at the time of pre-boarding, and a valid military ID must be presented at the departure gate.

Are there cancellation or modification charges if an active-duty military service member cannot travel due to deployment or receiving orders?

No, all Guests, including military service members, can change their reservation without a fee or cancel to receive a flight credit for the reservation value. To modify your flight, you may do so under the “My Trips" tab on our homepage. Please keep in mind that any difference in airfare will still be collected.

To receive a refund due to military orders such as deployment or training, please submit your military orders for review. To initiate the refund process simply click here to connect with our live chat support team. Valid documentation of military orders or directives must be provided. Accepted military documentation can include a Letter of Deployment or a Notice from a Governing Body.

The documentation must include:
•    Organizational Letterhead
•    Issued date
•    Name of the service member (must match the Guest on the reservation)

Honor Flights

Spirit is proud to partner with Honor Flight of South Florida.  Last Spring, Spirit flew more than 80 World War II Veterans (half of the plane) to Washington DC, to honor their service to our country. We take them to our nation’s capital for a day of surprises and events in which they are celebrated. The events includes meeting congressmen, Veterans Affairs officials, and special trips to Arlington National Cemetery, the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the recently constructed World War II memorial. For many of the veterans, this is the first time they’ve been able to visit the memorials that were built in their honor. The Veterans then return to a Hero’s Welcome at the airport. This is a tremendously profound trip for these veterans and Spirit is proud to be able to provide these flights for our greatest generation.
