You may carry or check your drone depending on its size and how it’s packed.
Carrying a drone onboard
If you choose to bring your drone as a carry-on item, it must fit within our carry-on size limits:
- Maximum size: 22 x 18 x 10 inches (56 x 46 x 25 cm)
- The drone and its case must fit in the overhead bin or underneath the seat in front of you.
Checking a drone
If you prefer to check your drone, it must be packed in a hard-shell protective case to help prevent damage during travel.
Lithium-ion battery requirements
Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries must always be carried in your carry-on baggage. This includes drone batteries.
- Do not place drone batteries in checked baggage
- Each installed or spare lithium battery must not exceed 100 watt-hours (Wh)
- Spare lithium batteries are accepted in carry-on baggage only
- Batteries must be individually protected to prevent short circuits by:
- Using original retail packaging, or
- Taping over exposed terminals, or
- Placing each battery in a separate plastic bag or protective pouch
Each lithium battery must also meet the requirements of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, Part III, Sub-section 38.3.
Additional restrictions for travel to Colombia
Important:
Effective immediately, Guests traveling with a drone to Colombia must enter the country through CTG (Cartagena) or BOG (Bogotá) airports only.
- Drones arriving at other Colombian airports (such as AXM (Armenia), BAQ (Barranquilla), or MDE (Medellin)) will be confiscated by airport or government authorities.
